It cannot be said enough, if you have the right mindset and open personality, working in an adult store is the greatest job anyone can ever find. After spending half a decade working behind the counters at various adult sex toy stores I have endless stories from my customers that range from hysterical to heart breaking to life affirming. Of course, there are a fair share of odd tales in there as well, but after a short while in an adult store your idea of what is weird changes dramatically. You also come away from your time in an adult store with a nearly endless collection of stories and experiences to share later on.

My first day was incredibly memorable. After getting settled and a tour of the store the manager asked me to price and hang up a new shipment of male masturbation sleeves. As I marveled at all the different looks, styles and selling points of these faux body parts I covertly watched the customers who streamed in and out of our doors. Once I got home my roommates were full of questions, most centering on what the customers were like. They seemed a bit disappointed when I told them that the people who came in the door were no different from the folks who shopped at any other retail job I had worked.

Quickly I got the hang of the layout of the store, what the best toys were for different needs, and began reading up on every toy I could find. Endless hours were spent putting batteries in toys when the store was quiet to see what each gadget did. My customers came in with tons of questions about the differences in toys that looked exactly the same and I wanted to give them the best answers possible.

After a year working in the adult store I had strong relationships with my regular customers. Over the years that followed my regular customers became like extended family. Helping people explore their sexuality or rekindle the fire in their relationships was a huge joy. Being a confidant, listening to fears, concerns, worries and stresses that some people had no one else to talk to about. I am forever honored that so many people felt comfortable sharing these things with me and proud that in many cases I was able to help my wonderful customers in such a profoundly intimate way.
